How can i tell if i have a Dynamic Microphone, what are its characteristics.?

A dynamic mic doesn't need phantom power (or batteries) in order to operate. It is essentially a speaker in reverse: A diaphragm is attached to a coil that moves in a magnetic field to generate current. Usually there is also a transformer between the coil and the output connector to match the mic's impedance to that of the mixing board or recorder.

What's the make & model number?

The reason I am asking is that I just purchased a Boss Br compact digital multi-track recorder and they advise that i use a dynamic microphone. I have on that i used before with my reel-to-reel tape recorder(Akai 4000X) which has been retired, and the microphone is an Audision DM-904 with IMPediance of 500 ohms. I assume that DM stands for Dynamic but i am not sure.

The DM904 is a dynamic mic. It's similar to the Shure SM58.

My manual for BOSS BR digital multi-track recorder is indicating that a voltage of approx 2.5 V can be supplied from the "MIC-IN" jack. and that it cannot supply 48 V. I tried using it last night(Audison) Dynamic mic, but the volume is quite low, and was wondering how i can determine what voltage is rated for the microphone and if it would need to be voltaged-up with a sound board mixer, or PA system. Taking into account that this is a normal PA microphone perhaps I should use a mic that came with the AKAI 4000XD reel-to-reel but then how would i find the voltage rating for that microphone.,

Which BR is it? The reason I ask is, the connectors differ.

A dynamic mic doesn't require any voltage from the device in order to operate. The 2.5volts it supplies could be used for a computer-style electret mic, but it's not enough for a pro condenser mic.
