How do i find out which is the high side and low side on my home A/C unit. Is the low side cold and high side hot like an automobile. I am low on freon and need to put some in. My on line is all iced up is that the low side. Before installing freon do i need to shut the unit off and let the ice disapear from on the line.

1. You might try posting this in the Air Conditioning area rather than in the electrical area...

2. If you have to ask this question, you probably should not attempt to do this yourself.
3. Do you know what type of refrigerant your home A/C uses? (R11, R22, R-410A, R-134A, R-407C)

Because you need to be certified to work with refrigerants we do not offer or support DIY sealed system A/C work.
It is a requirement that you find and have the leak repaired before adding refrigerant.
