I haven't thought about it since the late 80s about VCT tile and the Asbestos scare. I have to scrape up and get rid of 8000 Sq. ft. of the stuff and it has no asbestos in it. Are there any recycle uses for the stuff. Is it harmful to the enviroment. If I used used a chipper and fill it into potholes around my farm is there going to be another problem to contend with?

Hi Downlow,

Do you know who is the manufacturer of the tile? Armstrong recycles their VCT and it contains limestone. I did a google with the term: VCT tile disposal. You could also try other terms such as: recycle VCT tile.

Here's a cached link to the LEED environmental site so you can easily see the words highlighted.

I would NOT RECOMMEND you put it through a chipper as the pvc dust is very dangerous! Some interesting info here.

You might be able to find some help here from the US Green Building Council.

I'd love to know what you find out.

Thank you for the links. I found out that installing flooring for the last 36 years should have killed me by now. For an exact answer it seems I will have to call Armstrong as all the links seem to not answer the question of how dangerous and what to do with it, enviromental effects ect. I found a partial box with the Armstrong logo. Your links told me more than I found on google so thanks for them and your time locating them. What little I did find seems to answer my wife's question of why I always have a blank stare and lack of expression on my face, and to think I always blamed the kids for it. Thanks again

Downlow, you are so very welcome! I must admit you gave me quite the giggle. :) My ex used to install flooring, so I do understand the 'blank stare'. Maybe that was the problem.

I'd love to know what you find out is the best way to dispose of it.
