I have a new house and it came with 1 keypad, nx-1300e
I bought a 2nd as the bedroom was prewired but no extra keypad. When I hooked it up, it has power but the damn BYPASS light is on and no matter what I do, it won't turn off.

HELP ******

Is the light only on on the new keypad, or on both?

If the latter, you probably inadvertantly bypassed a zone.

When you added the new keypad, did you set it with an address different from the first keypad?

(I am assuming that you duplicated the wiring connections of the original keypad)

no, just the new one. It was wired already, I just added the kepypad. yes, i checked and it is just tapped in to the same connection as the first keypad. Where do i go from here ??
set an address ? how the heck do you do that and with what ?

From the section of the installer manual titled "programming the LED keypads" (which also applies to LCD keypads):

*94 + [installer code] + [keypad number] + *

The keypads come from the factory set to 1.

If this keypad was purchased used, it could possibly have issues.

Am I suppsed to be doing this from the new keypad ?
Thats a little hard when the bypass button is still on and the * and # button don't even beep when I hit them :)

Hmmm, humor me. Disconnect your existing keypad and see if this new one works normally.

If it doesn't, either the wiring from your keypad to the panel is bad, or the keypad itself is a dud.

After you set the keypad number, you also have to tell it what partition it should belong to (assuming it's not a NX-4) with "partition number + *". It defaults to partition 1, but if you got the thing used, you never know who did what to it previously.

Good point, I got interrupted in mid sentence and lost my train of thought. The correct sequence should be:

*94 + [installer code] + [keypad number] + * + [partition #] + *

Thanks Ron

I put the existing keypad on the new wiring and it works fine so I will assume the new keypad is bad and return it

Thanks
