Hello everyone,

I've read a lot of these forums where people talk about installing keypads, but I have a question that I haven't found an answer to.

When installing a new keypad, the installer guide says to enter section 000. Then it lists slot address. Valid entries are 0-8 for partition, 1-8 for slot. I'm dealing with home alarms here, I don't think they are partitioned. So is the standard slot 0 and partition 1?

If so, does that mean when I need to enroll a new alarm panel on a system, all I need to do is *8 [installer] 000, 01 and then ### to exit?

Will the DSC system now recognize the new panel? Or does each panel need to be assigned a new partition or slot, indicating that panel's ID...

I notice in the installer manual of my system, there are function key assignments that seem to come after the "01" of the digit string. Probably, these are just entered in sequence for key 1-5, right? so function key 1 - 5 could be programmed with values of 03 04 05 06 07 via:

*8 [installer] 000, 01, 03 04 05 06 07 ###

Now the new panel will have commands 03-07 for function keys 1 -5, right?

I'm not an installer, so please forgive my ignorance. I'm working to start a company that actually has an integration unit that will act as a virtual keypad to DSC, Honeywell and generic alarm panels. But I don't understand exactly what the logic is to installing a new keypad.

Is the process pretty much similar on the other brands? Just find the section for keypad enrollment, assign to what should be the default/first slot/partition and then you're done?

DSC keypads need a unique address. 11 is keypad 1; partition 1. 12 is keypad 2; partition 1. I think you can follow the pattern from there.

Actually, to set a function on function key 1 (for example), the keystrokes would be 000 1 xx.

Did you mean "22" is keypad 2 partition 2?

Is there a way to tell what keypad ID's are assigned already? They could have 2 or 3 panels, in which case, if I assigned "21" to a new one, it would effectively kill the existing keypad at that address?

Yes, if you read the chapter of the installer manual titled "how to program" it tells you how to view the contents of any programming location.

Actually, that was supposed to be "keypad 2; partition 1". (I'm not immune to typos...).
