The house is 9 years old and we have not had this problem until a couple of months ago. This is a 3x3 shower so it has walls around three sides of it. The mold is appearing on the ceiling and wall all around within about 2 inches of where they meet. It is just two adults in the house so its not like children are splasing/throwing water up there. Our routines have not changed so we are at a loss as to why!?!?
Any idea of what could be causing it?

Do you have an exhaust fan in your bathroom? Do you run it while you are showering and for 15 minutes or so after you shower? Is the fan the proper size? Is the fan working properly?

As Johnny said.
Check if it is opening the flapper door at the outside termination, while on. Is it pushing a lot of air, or just barely?
Take off the grill cover on the ceiling and examine the blades for dirt build-up, while stopped. Run a 3" or 4" duct cleaning brush in the duct, does it resist (blockage)?
I remove my fan motor to clean. With power off, remove or drop grill. Unplug motor in housing, loosen screw holding motor. Carefully slide motor from screw, don't drop it! Clean or replace, reassemble. Be safe, GBR
