Our fairly new (~2 years in service) GE microwave has started arcing behind the right interior wall behind a plastic cover (for lack of a better term). My wife said it has done this before, and at the time I saw a burn mark on the plastic cover. I proceeded to wipe the plastic to see if there was any evidence of a cause...but found nothing. It has been fine for several months, but started arcing again over the weekend.
A google search shows that GE microwaves have a history of bad magnetrons that may lead to arcing. Does this sound reasonable, and if so is this a DIY replacement project?

After some more research it appears that my issue could be a damaged waveguide cover. Just going off of memory I think there are some chips on the finish of the waveguide cover (most likely caused by old foodstuffs that were cooked to on). The interwebs tell me that this is enough to cause the arcing between the cover and magnetron.
I will inspect tonight to see if this is the case and if the cover is easily removable.
