Hello,
I have a kinetico K-100 water softener, and the resin is bad. Kinetico came out and checked the disk, float, brine tank and head unit. He gave me some cleaner to run through the softener. I cleaned it all out and gave it an iron test. It still is not working right. He told me he thought the resin would need changed, and they want 500 bucks to change it.
Its a well, and the water is 66 grains hard with 5 parts iron.
Is this something I could do on my own? Has anyone ever done it before in a K-100? If I can save some money, I will just do it myself.
O, this is in a foreclosed house that I bought and we dont know the history of the softener.
THANKS!!

Yes, you can do that on your own. It takes 1.5 cuft in each tank (3 total). The upper baskets and low distributors need to be inspected for breaks or damage.
Use a standard high capacity cation resin. I would empty eachof the tanks and put a cup of bleach and fill with water and let sit for half an hour or more. Empty and rinse again.
Be sure all o-rings are in good condition and use only silicon to lubricate. Make sure threads are clean and hand-tighten valve and remote.
You'll need to make sure there are no air locks so put the tanks through its cycles maunally untill you hear the air get out.
It's not hard but a few things need to ne done to make it work well.
