My friend is building a trailer for a catering business and laid vinyl tile squares over treated wood. Looked great but after a day tiles started lifting. Later realized the plywood was treated probably with an oil-based product. IS there anything he can do to get the tile to stick back down and stay????

With vinyl tile you need to make sure the floor is completely clean of debris. I have laid this in my bath and kitchen. The bath I installed over preexisting vinyl tile and they are working great! I was worried b/c the vinyl tile that was there was a bit shiny and I was hoping that the new would stick and they did.

If your friends case, the wood might have been treated w/ a polyurethane kinda stuff, to make it shine and what not. Before he threw all the tiles that came up away, try and put some liquid nails that come in the caulk tube, on the tiles. This is what I did just for some reassurance. I put a dab on each corner of the tile and one in the center. Nothing bigger than a dime size. If he wants to do this on some of them that came up and see how it goes. If it works and they stay down after a week or so, then rip up the others and do all of them.

Now if that doesn't work, then I would think sanding the hardwood floor to get that coating of whatever it is off, then lay brand new tile. You can really only stick these tile down once after they have been pulled up from the initial placement. This happened to me but they were only down about 15 minutes and I forgot to put floor leveler down in the area that I tore up, which was only about 5 tile.

I am sure some else will know more and post about it. I am just posting on the experiences I have had.
