I am getting ready to restain a cedar fence. I have looked at deck and fence wash at the hardware store. Do they contain anything besides bleach? Any suggestions on how to prepare the fence? There are some black streaks on the fence that I would like to remove before restaining. Will the fence wash kill the nearby grass?

We got some old privacy fence from a take-down job that looked simular to what you described, we pressure washed it and it look great, close to new. All you would have to do after that (if it works) is let it dry and apply your exterior stain.
I am not that familiar with deck washes so I can't comment directly to your questions about that, did you read the labels closely?
