Hello all,

The current iron removal system (we have ferrous iron) needs to be updated/replaced. I have not as of yet gotten a water test for concentrations, but will soon. In preparation though, I just want to start exploring my options. The system was in the house when we bought it.

The current system in order of flow, is a chlorine injection system with pH correction (acidic water) added, a large precipitation tank, a cartridge filter and then an old Culligan unit, which I am guessing is possibly a Greensand unit but I am not sure. The shock chlorination indicates to me a probable high concentration of iron in ppm...but once I get the test I'll know what we're dealing with. The feed system works fine, and I have the tank, but the head on the Culligan unit doesn't function properly and I am not sure it is worth replacing the head, the media is old. I suppose I should bypass the unit and post my flow rate.

I have really wanted to get away from the nuisance of the shock chlorination as it is a consumable and not terribly good for you. I suppose a chlorine filter is another option, but I digress. So my most important question is, is this system worth replacing the Culligan unit on, *or* should I look into another method (i.e. aeration unit, other media, etc). I have been trying to make heads or tails out of all the options and don't know where to begin. There are a few threads here that were helpful, at least to open my eyes to some media I hadn't heard of.

TIA
