I am in the middle of remodeling my house, and because money is a little tight these days, I'm doing most of the work myself as opposed to hiring someone to do it for me. However, I'm having some problems with my ceiling. I currently have the "wonderful" suspended ceiling tiles in my bedroom (on the top floor) and in my den (on the bottom floor). I hate it and want to remove it and start building a new ceiling, and have been on "do it yourself" websites all morning trying to get the information to begin my project; but no one mentions how to remove the suspended ceiling. I know it may look somewhat simple to everyone else, however the person who hung the drop ceilings used spray insulation above the drop ceilings. Can someone please help me? I guess my main question would be, what is the best (and easiest) way to remove this hideous drop ceiling and install a new ceiling?
Thanks
Jenn

Not sure what you have but...Remove all of the tiles. Then if you pull on the short metal pieces that held the tiles up they should come out. then look for some metal wire holding up some long support pieces of metal. Cut those. The only thing left is to unscrew or pry off the angle pieces that go around the room on the walls.

After that your are going to see a really bad plaster ceiling or bare studs. Good luck.

That's the correct way to remove the ceiling but there are some precautions you should take. The insulation that you mentioned sounds dangerous to me. Block all the door openings by hanging plastic or something & get some heavy duty masks.

I hope you get an answer because I have that same question
except I want to expose the beams of the roof and add a skylight also.
