Hello all,
My wife and I are in the process of choosing a piece of indoor /outdoor carpet for our screened in porch in southern Wisconsin. The type we have chosen is fairly thick and has a substantial backing and thick carpet fibers. It will stay on the porch all year long.

My question is whether or not we can have most indoor outdoor carpet edged so it will not fray at the edges in the future. If we cut it so an exact fit there will be several fairly tight intricate cuts around the door frame etc.. I have my doubts as to whether or not this type of carpet and be machine edged in the first place and going around small tight cuts would seem difficult to impossible.

Any thoughts on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

If binding is not possible you can use a hot glue gun to seal the edges and stop unraveling. Buy the hot melt sticks from a carpet supply store. They have some that are stronger than the walmart or craft store kinds.

Yes, it can be bound professionally.

You can do it yourself too. Do a google for "instabind"

Hey all,
Thanks for the tips as to possibly doing it myself. As we are going to cut and seam a 14 x 14 piece at home, I wasn't looking forward to hauliing it around town to have it bound.

Cheers,
Vance
