I'm looking for a carrying case for my 16" chain saw. All the boxes made for chain saws that I've seen are only large enough for the body of the saw (and a couple of tools and a quart of bar oil) and the blade has a scabbard that extends out from the box.

I want a box that is large enough for the saw and a small one-gallon fuel container. Essentially, a rectangular box 33" x 11" x 12" inside dimensions.

The only thing close I've found is a large storage box, but the problem with it is that the height and width are way too much.

Does anyone know of such a thing?

Since this is a DIY forum, why don't you make one. We can help you through it, just ask.

If you can still find them wooden ammo boxes and surplus boxes for shells etc would work great. It used to be there were mail order catalogs that had them in it.Not sure anymore but might be worth googling.

Yes, I could and I may, but the only material I would feel comfortable using would be wood. My initial thought is that wood would be heavier that plastic or metal and wood is not chemical resistant.

Wood and a chain saw are meant for each other.

Sort of like grits and red eye gravy! You could make it of 1x pressure treated or pt plywood. I wouldn't worry about the possibility of oil, gas, etc leaking onto the wood. It would help preserve it and give it character

You are looking at quite a bit of weight when loaded wet and totalled up. I keep mine separated - chainsaw in its case, accessories and tools in a small box, gas can - away from anyhing that can cut or puncture it.

all depends on if this box is for storage or to carry everything around in from place to place.Even without the box it would have pretty good weight.

I agree. I would make a box for the auxiliary stuff and get a chain saw case for the saw. That way, you are balanced when carrying the two.
