Getting ready to remodel our 1970 house original kitchen. The current floor is sheet vinyl, but there is another layer of something directly underneath it, which I can only assume is the original floor from 1970.

How can I tell if that is linoleum or vinyl?

And if it's linoleum, how can I find out if it has asbestos in it?

I want to remove both these layers, along with the layer of luan under them, and get down to the subfloor and then lay my new floor. Thanks.

I think they quit using asbestos in the 50's or 60's. I read that on here a while back. I had asbestos in my house but it was built in the 1940's and they were 9x9 tiles.
