So I'm remodeling my friends dining area while I have the free time. So I suggested to him to rip the wood panels off the walls and paint them instead, so he gave the go ahead and I started to. The problem I'm running into now is I ripped parts of the wood panel off the the wall and where the drywall meets the ceiling there are gaps throughout it. Is there a possible quick fix to this? or does this require new drywall? I took pictures and I can post them if needed.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums!

I'm not sure I understand:o

Did you hang drywall on the walls and have a gap where it meets the ceiling? If so, there are several ways to address it. Normally you would fold the tape and finish it just as you would an inside corner - but that means working on the ceiling = paint touch up, maybe texture. Another method is to flat tape the top of the wall and then caulk once the tape has been finished ith joint compound. Or you can install crown moulding to hide the gap.

I didn't hang anything, All I did was to start ripping off this old wood paneling that was in his dining room area, under it was drywall. I posted pictures to show you a little bit.

You will either have to tape the top or cover it with crown moulding. Do you plan to install corner bead on the opeinings to the other rooms? or case them out?

no idea what you mean, he just wants plain white walls. His parents lived in this place since the 80's and decided they want to live in germany, so they left it to him. So now we are in the process of modernizing it so we can rent out the 3rd bedroom to a younger person. My only experience with drywall is i worked in a painters union for about 6 months before i joined the military, and in the military I would usually do general maintenance to the hangar if we didn't want to wait on a work order.

Corner bead= piece of metal or plastic that protects the corners of the drywall.

Casing= picture a door way, with lumber on the sides that wrap the entryway.

oh ok I guess I had an idea what you meant then. I'm not sure though what the plans are, it's a townhouse and there isn't so much as different rooms. We are talking about just the corner of the walls right? not the top where it meets the ceiling?

Correct, where the drywall meets drywall on an exterior corner/edge, you need to install corner bead and then 2-3 coats of joint compound over it unless you use wood mouldings to cover up those joints. A cased opening is something like a regular door opening without the door.

Drywall joints in the middle of a wall, inside corner or top edge get drywall tape embedded in joint compound to hide the joints. After the intial tape job is dry, 2 more coats of j/c are applied, sanded, primed and then painted. As noted earlier, you can hid the gap at the top with wood trim.

This No-Coat or Ultraflex drywall tape is a bit expensive but it sure is a great procuct for different degree and bad angles.
