Hey Guys,

I'm brand new to this forum, so I'm straight in the deep end to ask your expert advice.

I'm a newbie at Drywall, so would like to know the answer to my query today. Basically, I'm installing new celing drywall, which I am told is called "green board" (although it's 1/2 inch blue coloured)

My question is, does it have to be glued to the 2x4 joists above? .. or can it simply be screwed with conventional drywall/decking screws every 6/12 inches?

Thanks in advance guys! :)

Hi & thanks for the reply.

As I said, I'm a novice, so that PDF scared the heck out of me! lolol

Anyway, our product is called "Humitek" .. it's grey/blue in colour and 1/2 thick.

I believe this is the exact board we have?
New Products : Products : USG Humitek Gypsum Panels : HGTVPro.com (http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/np_products/article/0,,HPRO_20179_4290901,00.html)

Okay, will read through the pdf file and see if I can figure out if I need to glue it to the ceiling 2x4 joists.

Thanks again! :)

Greenboard is the moisture resistant type of drywall. IMO it isn't needed, once primed and painted with latex enamel, it has all the moisture repelling properties it needs.

Blueboard is drywall formulated to accept a plaster veneer.

Regular drywall has a light greyish color paper and is what's normally used for most applications.

I'm a painter, not a drywall hanger/finisher but I don't think it is necessary to glue the drywall to the joists - just be sure to use enough screws/nails. Normally glue is used on walls so not as many nails/screws are needed = easier finishing.

Thanks Guys! ... I think you have cleared up my doubts.

The guy in Home Depot told us this "Humitek" blue coloured board is Moisture Resistant, so now that you have confirmed it doesn't necesarily need to be glued (as we are installing it in our basement bathroom/shower room ceiling and that I am also using screws) ... I think we are good to go!

Thanks soooooo much for the advice, great help!!

Cheers!!!! :)
