I need to install 5/8 plywood over my windows for hurricane protection. I have researched the use of a product called "KwikTap" which are simply concrete screws to drive into the plywood into the stucco using a pre-drilled hole with a TapCom bit and not a masonry bit.

My question is, when I remove the screws to remove the plywood, can I use the same holes again next time or will the holes in the stucco be ruined and unable to install the screw again?

thx,

Not sure of the exact product...but driving screws into stucco for protection is useless. You need to hit framing members underneath.

They have a good product that are basically clips that dig in more as the wind tries to pull the plywood off. Sorry I can't find the name.

As to your question, any time you screw things to wood more than once, the hold will be weaker.

As GG says, driving screws into stucco alone won't help, and it is an open invitation for moisture to get behind the stucco and ruin it quickly. I would opt for a window frame mounted clip method. Someone from Florida will chime in here shortly and come up with the name and a better way to do things, so hang on.

TapCom bit and not a masonry bit.just to clear things up a tapcon bit is a masonry bit . I use a fair number of tapcons and I use bosh bits rater than the tapocn bits because they last longer

I think gunguy is thinking of plylox
PLYLOX™ Hurricane Window Clips (http://www.plylox.com/)

I've looked at them and wouldn't use them

"stuco " doesn't tell us much as they say you need to be attaching to something solid

there's a lot of info out there , a Google search should help

we have a masonry home and i just go right into the block

Last year I bought the Plylox Clips. They did not work because my stucco walls are flush with my windows and they would not work.

Yeah, those are the clips I meant. And no, they don't work in all cases.

I found this on the Internet. Take a look. I think Kit#2 will work for me but I want your opinions.
