We are redoing all of the colors in our house and getting all new window and door casings, base moldings and crown moldings. Our decor is primarily rustic/country. We want to paint our trim something other than white. We picked a sort of beige color called Timber Dust. We are also planning on painting the doors one shade lighter than the trim. The walls are all different colors, but mostly earthy tones. The ceilings are all painted with a standard flat white ceiling paint...

My question is, will this look odd?? Does anyone have any pictures of their non-white trim? Will the darker crown look ok against a white ceiling? I hate painting...lol

Hi jmat1980,

Color is a very subjective issue, that depends a lot of each particular room, the light, the height, the style, etc
Therefore... can you post a picture of the room?

(you can use Photobucket or other free photoalbum and post a link here)

Depending on the look you want, typically the tinting goes the other way around, lighter on the crown and deeper on the trim. This is done because the crown reflects downward and looks deeper when the same color is used. So if indeed you want the crown to look deeper, simply paint it the same color as the trim. Then if you don't like it, lighten or darken to suit.

Well... I don't think that trial and error is a good idea.... specially in this economy...
In my opinion, the best way to go is a study of the room
I use to provide a picture simulation in this forum, and in addition I recommend the use of free color programs (online).
Using graphic tools, users can visualize the situation, colors, etc avoiding unnecessary spending and efforts

In general I think the beige color will fit well with the rustic/country style of your home. I don't think it will look odd compared to the white ceiling. The house of a friend is painted in a similar color pattern and it looks really warm and nice.
