Hi,
It's been 15yrs since the Kinetico 60 was installed and I think the resin beads need replacement. The water hardness from my well varies between 30-70 grains/gal. Last reading was ~1000ppm hardness (56 grains/gal). I use potassium salt. Water pressure is 40/60. My questions are:
1. Can I use SST60 resin?
2. Which disk should I use (#5 in currently)?
Thanks

Are you on a private or community well system. I have heard of private wells flexing in iron and sulfur from different times of the year. But hardness normally stays pretty consistent unless some outside pressure or 'vacuum' is involved.
To vary between 30 and 70 gpg is something I have never heard of. What you contribute to this wide range? How are you measuring hardness? Are these tests far apart or near the same time period?
Anyway, as that may be, this becomes very difficult to get satisactory results unless you base it at the maximum hardness (iron must also be factored in). If you set if for 70 grains per gallon then you would need a larger system (model 100). A disk 5 can only handle up to 46 grains at maximum salt setting. A disk 8 would max out at 66 gpg.
Yes, you can use SST-60 resins and that might help in more extreme conditions, but, according to your calculations, the K-60 would be too small. If you need more details, let me know.

Thanks for your quick response Andy. When the system was installed in 1994 the installer tested the water and it was 29 grains/gal. I purchased a water testing kit and got these results last week:
pH 8.5
Alk 240 ppm
Ch 1.0 ppm
Hardness 1000+ ppm (brilliant magenta color)
Free Ch 0.0 ppm
Chloride 200 ppm
Sulfate 150 ppm
Nitrate 1.0 ppm
Nitrite 0.0 ppm
Copper 0.1 ppm
Iron 0.0 ppm
Bacteria – none detected after 48hrs
H2S 0.0 ppm
Lead – negative
Pesticide – negative
The color strip matching chart for hardness ranged from light yellow/tan (0ppm) to light brown (1000ppm). The color I got was a brilliant magenta which I take to be >1000ppm. The well is private, not on a well share.
A number of years ago a driller I spoke with indicated that just 0.1 mile from me another well measured 96 grains/gal. Water company wells occasionally detect bacteria so I sense that the supply is not all static. The static water level is around 260' with the pump at 280' and well depth 320' if that helps any.

Hi,
I have a Kinetico Model 60 that was serviced last year. The drain on the first tank, i have the hose ran into the drain where the washer also drains and the past couple days the Kinetico has been draining slowly constantly. My Wife says it has never done that before and really, i dont know if it had or not. Im thinking it has before but i just dont know what it means when it is draining.
Should i worry about it? Is it normal or do i need to unclog something? I really have no idea if it is an issue or not.

Do you have a prefilter? Try manually regenerating it and let it go through its cycles and see if the problem continues.

It is about 11 years old. Replaced a tank (2nd tank) and had everything redone in the head of the main tank that the water pipes come in and out of last year. I turned the dial to brine and ran it through a cycle. Seems to be ok now. The drain line still has some water in it but not constantly draining like before.
Just never really noticed it doing that before but i knew water ran thru it when it does its cycle. My Wife was just kinda worried about it.

Drain water will come out at differentnrates depending on thebstage of regeneration. But it should stop when all is complete. Is that what you have found? Time period is about 40 minutes.

Well it did it that particular day for hours at a slow pace but after i did a regeneration it hasnt done it.
