When finishing bathroom walls with the tissue paper technique, is it necessary to seal the finished walls with anything to prevent water/steam from causing it to peel?

Absolutely! It is imperative to seal your artwork, plus it adds a degree of depth. When marbleizing, I seal after each application of technique. By the time I'm done the "marble" looks an inch deep.

Another suggestion is to apply a layer of your base paint on the wall and while wet, apply your tissue paper. To smooth out slightly just go back and roll again with your base paint. You're done. No need for another step.
If you want to add a glazing technique, be sure to use a good quality glaze so no sealing will be necessary.
We have used Bella Fresco for years and feel that it is one of the very best on the market. It may be a tad pricer that what you may find a big box store, but there is NO comparision in quality, durability or results.
Also be sure to tear off most of the finished edges of your tissue as you only need those for the edges of the walls. And be sure to get enough of the very same tissue paper to complete your project.
Hope this helps.......
