I have an Adobe Air 1/2HP window swamp cooler that i would like to have a thermostat control. Right now it just has two switches one for the pump and another to control the fan (Hi/Lo). Is it possible to have a thermostat control this cooler? Ive seen cooler thermostats at Homedepot but im not sure if those will work and am a little hesitant to start cutting cables on the cooler to test. If anyone has been able to accomplish this or has any advice please share. Thanks.

Yes, it is possible to wire up a thermostat but it's not very easy. The best type of thermostat for an evap cooler is the low voltage kit that Lowes sells, it's about 84 bucks and works great. You would remove the grill off of your cooler and mount the control box for the thermostat inside the cooler neck and run low voltage thermostat wire to where you would want to put the thermostat. The hard part is that you would need to cut all of the wires behind the grill and wire them inside the control box.
If I'm not mistaken, I think someone out there makes a plug in wall thermostat that you could plug your cooler into, I'll check some sites and get back with you on that.:)

Here is an easy sta that you could plug your cooler into, you will have to control the speeds yourself but at least it will be easy to use and is programable.:)Econo-Heat USA (http://www.eheat.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=53)

By the way, it is a heat and cool thermostat, just set it for cool.

i just bought the dial #7624 thermostat at lowes and installed it myself last week, works perfect. it will automatically switch between low and high fan speed depending on the difference in the temp settings. when theres a difference of 4 degrees between the setting and the actual temp it go to high and when it get within 2 degree of the set temp it go to low. it will also pre-wet the pads if its off to long. it also has a feature of being able to hook up a purge pump and set it to purge the old water from it every couple hours, my purge pump has this feature built into it. the only problem is that the instructions dont say to use a jumper wire from N Link to Link, it shows a line but doesnt say, in the instructions, do connect a wire here, but shows it, anyway once i figured that out it worked perfect. nice to just be able to set the thermostat and walk away. anyway it was definitely worth the $85.00 it cost, plus 50' of low voltage thermostat wire.
