Good Morning All:

When I turn the outside faucet (by the pump house) all the way on the pump never cuts on it just gives all the water in the tank until in runs out but after filling the tank manually again holding the pressure switch in the start position until it clicks over to auto and stops at the right PSI Then if I turn the faucet on ¼ to ½ way the pump cycles as it should. I have had this setup for years and never had a bit of trouble until now. Any help would be greatly appreciated! By the way I did change the pressure switch but still have the same problem. I am at a complete loss!!

Do you have a bladder tank? I think the air in it needs to be adjusted. With the power off drain all the pressure of the tank. Then with a tire gauge, check the air pressure in the tank. It should be 2psi lower than the cut in psi of the pressure switch. If water comes out when you check the air, your tank is bad and will need to be replaced.

If you have a steel pneumatic tank, look at the sticky at the top of the page, and follow the water logged tank steps.

The power to my shallow well pump is always on. Lately it started cycling every few seconds. I talked to a plumber that said the small bladder tanks need about 16psi. I did that and primed the pump again with fresh water(Takes about twenty minutes with all zones open...if that is the right way to do it) It was working ok.Then, when I turned all of the zones off, it started cycling again every few seconds. I replaced the four solenoids six months ago. Could it be the check valves or is it possible that the well is running dry. I am in the Tampa Bay area where we are having a serious water shortage. The water table might be really low. Any ideas?

Did you do what Travis suggested? Did you follow the instructions under the sticky? Still sounds like it's waterlogged. This shouldn't have anything to do with it needing to be primed. If it wasn't primed it wouldn't build enough pressure to cycle on and off.
