Hi,
I would like to replace the lock on the door from the garage to the house with an electronic keypad lock.
I'm planning to keep the regular deadbolt.
I'm looking for some advice on how good and secure the various products are.
Also, I'm looking for a model where I can keep my existing lock cylinder.
A bonus: a keypad lock that allows different codes for different times.
I found some models:
Schlage - Products (http://consumer.schlage.com/products/Productdetail.asp?StyleID=100&FinishID=3&FunctionID=50)
Touchpad Lockset with Doorknob, Brass - PAKK-01P - Smarthome (http://www.smarthome.com/5184B/Touchpad-Lockset-with-Doorknob-Brass-PAKK-01P/p.aspx)

Don't know anything about the Smarthome lock, but I've had a Schlage FE series on 2 doors in my house for over a year with no problems....but, if your existing house key is anything other than a Schlage "C" (SC-1) keyway, you will not be able to key the FE lock to it.
When you add the criteria of custom keying and time zones, you generally get into commercial grade locks which are software based, considerably more expensive, and, with a few exceptions, limited to 2-3/4" Backset. One possibility that comes to mind is Alarm Lock's Trilogy series which is available in 2-3/8 Backset...look at the one that includes time zones.

In my opinion, you are asking for trouble with the latter option. They are prone to failure.
A rule of thumb is....pay peanuts....get monkeys.
AL Trilogy is a tried and true quality product. Options include Schlage Cobra, Bioaxxis Thumblock and others.
