Thinking about doing a deck on the side of our house. Just looking for idea of cost and a few questions.
Can i use post in concrete for the supports without the tube? for the deck 10x12. Plan was to sink 8 posts in the ground around the perimitter and 2 in the middle for support and 2x6 for the frame with 2x6 for the flooring. Also attaching the rails to the post i would sink in the ground.
Any hints suggestions?

Could i use wood pallets on the ground with 2x6 covering them? Obviously if they were level.

You don't sink posts in the ground for vertical supports. You dig and pour footings in accordance with your local building requirements. Then you use Simpson Strontie or similar post bases attached to the footing and to the vertical post. 2x6 would be marginally ok for the support, but I would opt for 2x8 for the banding. 2x6 would be good for the joists. Use joist hangers for each joist on each end. Fasten the ledger against the house to the band board of the house using carriage bolts spaced about every 3 feet and bolted from within the crawlspace or basement. I would use 16" on center for the joisting and 5/4 x 6" radiused deck boards for the decking. Your vertical supports should be long enough to form your newel posts for your balustrade.
Pallets on the ground??? You didn't say that, did you? How long do you think pallets would last in ground contact?
