I have always installed roller shades in windows with wood jambs. The windows in our new house have vinyl jambs. Can I still do an inside mount on vinyl jambs? If so, do I need different hardware?

The vinyl jamb is no problem. Use 1/2" to 3/4" #6 sheet metal screws. The problem may be that you don't have the 1 1/4" depth to mount the hardware that will allow the shade to clear the window sash. If this is the case, ask for footless brackets.
