Can a Simon 3 control panel with a broadband connection be converted to use a telephone land line? I am sure the dialer is in place because I am getting a "failed to communicate message".
I have been advised that the sensor failures that I have been having are related to the cable system and that I should change to a telephone connection or purchase a repeater. Does this sound reasonable? I really need advice on this and will appreciate comments.

Yes it can.
It is highly unlikely that the cable has anything to do with your SENSOR failures. Phone communication failures, yes. What does cause some sensor interference (that may be indirectly related to cable if your cable company also does your internet), is if you have the Simon unit within 5 feet or so of a wireless router. Remember, wherever you place the main unit, that's where the receiver is.

Thanks, GE Guy. The wireless router is within five feet of the control panel. I will relocate it and give it another try and report back. Again, thank you for your response.

I relocated the Simon about 10 ft. away from the router. There are only two sensors that are between the router and the control panel and they have not failed. In the past two days I have had a total of 9 sensor failures. I think that trying a repeater will be the only remaining option for me. The house has metal studs, window frames, and doors. My thinking is that the metal is somehow interfering with the RF signal.

If the sensors are mounted on the metal frames/doors, that could very well be the problem. Before dropping $ on a repeater, try to locate the panel somewhere central to all wireless devices (if possible). If you can't, there may be another option. There are a couple of different door/window sensors that allow you to use hardwire contacts and wire them to the sensors. The idea is to use the hardwire contacts on the metal frames/doors and then wire those to the wireless sensors that have been moved a foot or so away (or longer if need be). What kind of wireless sensors do you have? If they are the right kind, this will be cheaper than going the repeater route which may or may not solve the problem (metal).

Sensors are micro type 60-688-95. I also have several recessed magnetic contacts on sliding glass doors (Micra-G Wireless dr/window sensors, from Russ Van).
Relocation of the control panel will be difficult because I will have to get an Ethernet cable to the location from the router. Therefore, I do not consider that as a viable option.
I noticed that Ebay has repeaters listed for $75
(GE # 60-615-10-319.5) which is the old part #. The vendor says that it will work with my Simon 3. What say you?

Well, you're out of luck with those sensors as far as hardwiring to them, can't do it. You've got a couple of things working against you here other than the metal issues. The micro door window sensors do not have a large antenna on them due to their size that the standard sensors do. This cuts down on the transmission range. On the other end, you have the Simon panel itself. It's on the low end of receiver range in the GE world (Advent and Concord being the best). If you can, try to get the crystal repeater, it's stronger than the SAW version.
