I scanned all the threads, there was one that addressed this but the question was never answered. Two members got into a discussion about who's husband was more professional. Anyway, my son bought a home and the carpets look great. The problem is that you step on something sharp (I assume nails) right by the metal threshold. What do I do to fix this????

They are probably tackstrips...
I can't tell you what to do with any professional expertise.....I'd prod smack 'em with a hammer to bend 'em over a bit. But wait for the experts to give advice.

Your instincts are very good! In order to eliminate those pesky nails (tacks) you can indeed pound them with a hammer. This happens every now and then when installing very thin carpet or when the tacks on the strip have been bent to a vertical orientation.
Pounding on the nails will generally result in a little metallic clink when his with the hammer. When you dont hear the clink the tack is probably bent sufficiently. This can be confirmed (carefully) with your fingers.
Good Luck!
