Being unemployed I'm finding I need to replace my couch as it's falling apart. As you probably figured I can't spend thousands of dollars....
I found a Bassett set that I can pick up, two loveseats (old style, not available) camelback. The pattern (hate patterns) is not bad. They will sell both loveseats for 500... they had each priced at 495! :)
I was wondering about the quality of Bassett Furniture. This is a camelback outfit (which is what I was looking for).
I've heard names like Lane and Bernardt, and have even heard of Bassett, but have never owned a set. My Brother in law works at Ashley and could get me a couch for about three hundred, but I have heard their stuff is cheap crapola!
Any suggestions on quality?
Thanks!

Have you done any research on the internet about Bassett and customer complaints? I would say that the quality of Basset is higher than Ashley, and no offense to your family member, but my opinion of Ashley's quality is pretty poor. I would say Bassett is pretty much lower middle to middle of the road.
I did read some complaints posted by others about Bassett and it seems that Bassett Furniture Direct (is that where you'd be buying these) seems to have more managerial/customer relations issues than quality. There were quality complaints as well so it might be worth if for you to do a little internet research on those complaints.
I bought a Clayton Marcus sofa, 5 years ago, from a local furniture store and have been extremely pleased with the craftsmanship, wear and comfort of the sofa. I didn't pay thousands of dollars for the sofa - it was around $1200. I mention if because it is a good brand and may be available at your local furniture store for less (the sofa wasn't on sale when I bought it.)
One final note: $500 for two love seats is extremely inexpensive. Maybe you could look at this as a temporary purchase. When you are working again you can always replace them if you want with something more inline with your style/taste. Best of Luck.

Some experience with Bassett, I've seen their cheaper stuff and it's no better than anything at Big Lots or similar. Of course they have upper and lower end lines.
I got a partial bedroom set from a family run store going out of business, solid oak, very nice, good quality stuff...but what we bought was originally about $1800 for head/footboards and 2 nightstands. As I said...different lines mean different quality.
I agree a loveseat that was originally $495 was not highest quality to begin with. Prob be fine for a few years, but not an heirloom.
