I wasn't happy with the cheapo ademco vista 10p installed in my house so I made my own.

It was really easy because my house was prewired. I figured out that all the sensors are simple open contact sensors. I hooked them up to my DAQ board (check labjack.com for an example) and can view the status of every sensor in my house + I hooked up a Solid State Relay to one of the outputs on the DAQ board so I can control the alarm at will.

I also added 3x panasonic c131 wifi cameras. I now can monitor all the outdoors/backyard and garage as well as motion and every sensor in the house. My plan is to make it suit my needs. I can use the internet to check the status of all sensors and also can have the system send me a txt message whenever a status changes and I can decide to sound the alarm or not remotely.

Anyway, the two things left that I don't have sensors for are the garage door and the shed door. Skylink makes a wireless garage door sensor for about $20. The problem is the receiver just turns on a light. I want a device that just gives me a open and close contact switch so I can just hook it up to my DAQ system.

Does anyone know of any systems that output just switch open/close through a relay or something? The ademco motion detector does just this and was easily adapted for my system.

Any help in finding a sensor would be greatly appreciated.

Linear™ makes a 4 or 8 zone receiver- that can be set to latch, hold as long as transmitter is violated, or momentary. each zone is programmed for the 3 settings

the range is every bit of 400 feet, each has a digital code so you shouldnt get false alarms

part #'s DXSR-1504 (4 zone) or 1508 (8 zone)

the door / window transmitters do not have external contact connections- i have de-soldered the built in reed switch, soldered wires in its place & used my own N/C contact - you will need to do this for agood wide gap o/head door contact.

they also make wireless motion detectors, as well as hand held "panic" buttons.

if you do a search, you will find a lot of companies that sell gate operators & o/head door openers on the web selling these
