Since i squashed my first thread before I barely got a response, I thought of another problem we are having!
We want to put wainscoting in the dining room. Most of what I see is paneling, whch we do not want, we want to use the framing. I have found some at lowes for 13 dollars and that seems pretty expensive. I am having a hard time finding something on how to make the wainscoting myself.

any help on cheaper wainscoting or on how to make it yourself would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Paul

I have posted in other areas a good wainscotting method, so here goes again....Cut your sheetrock at the 32" mark from the floor around your room where you want to install the wainscotting and remove the sheetrock. Install perlins about 4" from the bottom plate between all studs. Install perlins at the 32" line so you can reattach the tails of your sheetrock and also grab the wainscotting. Cut and install 6" tongue and groove beadboard vertically around the room. Then install flat chair rail along the seam between the sheetrock and wainscotting. The design doesn't protrude from the wall and is solid, as that is what I expect you want.

Thanks chandler. I understand what you are saying, but I cant visualize it. do you have any picstures? We already have chair rail, I am not sure how high it is, we do not close until the 13 of April. What is the bottom of the wainscoting? The base board? thanks for the help, the wainscoting is for my wife. I want to keep her happy!

Oh, yeah, happiness is all the story! I'll try to dig out a pix (if I took any) and post them. You would remove your existing chair rail and cut the sheetrock out from that point down along with the baseboard and shoe molding. Install the perlins and the beadboard planks vertically. This insets the beadboard to almost the same depth as the sheetrock. You reinstall your baseboard and shoe, or stain up new and install that. Reinstall your chair rail across the seam.
