Hello - I'm new to the US so dont have much experience of heat pumps and AC units. However, the one I have in my condo needs replacing, and I have been quoted for a replacement Carrier unit:

Carrier 50EZ-030-301 2½ Ton 13 SEER Puron Heat Pump

Before paying out nearly $10k on replacing, I wanted to make sure this is a good unit. Does anyone have any comments on if this is a good unit? The guy recomended this and said that Puron is going to be mandatory in the future. Any advice would be great!

Also my old unit had the strange feature of blowing out cold(ish) air once the room has been heated to the correct temperature. Is this just a feature of heat pumps or should my new unit fix this problem?!

this is a HP package unit? nat gas not available? nothing special about this model other than high price. may be a discontinued model-did not see it on the Carrier site. here is a link with product info.

I personally would want to find a unit that qualified for the $1500 tax credit.

Package systems:
HSPF >= 8
EER >= 12
SEER >= 14

Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency : ENERGY STAR (http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=products.pr_tax_credits#c3)

here is the AHRI performance/eff numbers.
