I'm tring to start a mtd riding mower when i turn the key all it does is click at the solenoid ,any suggestions

first off make sure you have a good battery and the soleniod is working then we go from there,also check cables to starter and ground

Please post the mower number and engine make and number so we know exactly what we are dealing with. Different engines have different quirks.

Check for power at the starter terminal when you try to start it. If none, but the solenoid clicks and all connections are clean and tight, then the solenoid is bad.
