What time of year should I treat my lawn and mulch bed for insects? I typically use the Ortho spray to treat around doors, windows, and the foundation, granules throughout the mulch beds and a dry product on the lawn using my spreader. I've had ant problems in the past especially in the mulch beds. Not sure why they like the mulch so much.

I don't use pesticides to just treat my garden unless it's a specific pest and I have an out-of-control problem. When it comes to treating for pests, it's best to id which pests so you can treat at the appropriate time. An example of that would be grubs. With those it's "treat in the fall if at all". Other then the ants, which have been addressed in your posts here:

which pests are you having a problem with?
