My system has a defective wireless motion sensor (model 5890).
1) What do I need to do to permanently disable it?
2) Should I wish to replace it, do you recommend I get another 5890 or a wired sensor. It is located within 3 ft of the control box and running a wire would be very easy.
I have the installer code and have successfully entered the programming mode. The Programming Guide is brutal.

I'll try to help you.
In the *56 menu enter the zone # that this motion is assigned too. It will then bring up "zone type", enter '00', then *
This should disable the zone until you get a replacement.

Thank you for the quick response. Tried what you suggested but I'm stuck in programming mode, eg entering *99 doesn't take me back to a Ready status. Also appears in Programming mode, AC is disconnected as the monitor is reading No AC.
Any ideas?
Update: I'm back on Ready. Did a restart by discoonnecting the power (AC & DC).

You don't have a 6160 keypad or equivalent, do you?
You cannot see the zone programming menus from the fixed alpha model keypads like the 6150.

Not sure what model it is but suspect you are correct - after I entered *56 I didn't get any alpha characters that would help me out.
Update: I did some searching on the internet. My keypad is closest to the 6149EX. It is branded ADT.

In this case, the specific doesn't matter much. You have a fixed alpha keypad. In order to access the zone programming menus you need the 2-line alpha keypad like the 6160 or 6139.

Thanks - That must mean when ADT came in previously to re-program my service they brought another keypad. Does this seem right to you?
I can't believe they stiffed me with one without full functionality especially when they knew I would own the system at the end of the initial term. Had they told me about the difference in functionality and price, I suspect I would have paid the difference.

Yes, their standard business model is to bring in a programming keypad and sell the fixed alpha on the entry level systems. They charge a premium for the full alpha model.
