Dear forum, I want to order resin & carbon for a Kinetico Quad 50/51 and can't find the right quantity & mesh size to order for this unit. Does anyone have first hand experience or reference material on CU Ft of resin & activated carbon charcoal is needed? Also what is the correct mesh size for the each?

Also, are there any gotchas to look out for when I start to disassemble? My unit is buried half in the ground so the bottom tanks will stay where they are. My plan is to use a wetvac to extract whatever is in the lower tank. What can I expect to see when the tanks are separated? How to empty & refill them? Hopefully it will be obvious?Beer 4U2

Thank you. You know only today did I find that the valve isn't working. This unit has been flawless for 10+ yrs. and only a couple of weeks ago the roofers dropped a shingle on it just right and busted off an external nipple for the flushing tubing. I'm not sure what to call it. Anyway Aquatex came out and took care off it for ~$250. But that was a couple of weeks ago and I know they had to open up the valve housing to replace the fitting.
I've had Aquatex replace the activated carbon charcoal a few years back and I've been wanting to do it again but it's cost prohibitive to get those guys to do it. So I recently began trying to research buying the media to do it myself. And today I thought to top off the salt -and- set off a flush cycle. I never do that because we use enough water for it to flush often enough on it's own. But today I did and the darn thing just spins. Bottom line is it's not working.

Can't say why the valve is not working. did the roofers pay for the repair?

The amount of carbon is 0.4 cuft per tank, or filled nearly to the top. Some settling occurs after installation. You should the system out of the ground if you can. Getting the tanks separated can be difficult because you need to secure them to turn them.

Also, I would sanitize the tanks and make sure the screen at the bottom is clean and free of debris.

Resins are fine mesh type. Many manufacturers have similar types but just make sure it is fine mesh.
