Ok my wife has been after me to replace our vented range hood. Problem is, ours is 27 inches wide and I cannot find a replacement anywhere, they are either 24'' or 30'' and so on. My question is has anyone successfully repainted one and if so what kind of paint to use? Should it be nonflammable?

I've not repainted one, but I did work at a major manufacturer of range hoods, among other items. We spray painted them with standard baking enamel.

If you want to repaint yours, I suggest removing it and then removing or masking all electrical components. Then degrease it - maybe several times to be certain that all grease and residue are removed. Scuff sand, tack rag, and spray with Krylon or similar aerosol paint. Build up several coats the achieve the finish you desire. Give it plenty of time to cure before remounting it.

The closest product that is easily DIY to the original finish on the hood is appliance epoxy spray paint.Terminology varies from brand to brand but the word appliance and/or epoxy will be on the can.

Prep would be as stated and similar to regular spray paint.

The epoxy sprays have a stronger more durable finish and have an appearance more similar to an appliance finish.Color choices are limited to basic common appliance colors.
