Hello everyone,
I just inherited an out-door water conditioner that was low on water(about 5 gallons )and I tried to follow the maintenance instructions that were left with it.
I filled it to capacity with 40 gallons of water and then poured 2.5 gallons of chlorine into it.
The following morning I checked on it and some tan like sludge had formed on the top of the water.
So,my question would be: Is this normal or should I be in panic mode?
Thanks for any helpful info.

Are you saying that you filled the brine tank? This is for salt. The unit puts the required amount of water in it after a regen.

I'm not sure what its called but it sits side by side with the salt tank and it requires chlorine treatment...

Sorry. Didn't understand your 1st post. What you have is a chlorinator. You must have some type of pump to inject the chlorine into the main water stream. The sludge will not hurt anything.
