I have a 68" wide x 33" tall sliding living room window. I bought a 72" mini-blind & carefully cut the ends off. However, it's awkward to have over half of the slats bunched up at the bottom. It also makes opening/closing harder. There appears to be some kind of hot melt button on the bottom that secures the 3 lines - 1 thru the middle & 1 on each side. I assume I can cut the strings & somehow tie or re-secure them to the bottom. Anyone have any experience that might save me a headache?
Thanks for your time.

Don't they have instructions for shortening the blinds? Most just have a simple plug in the bottom rail. Pull the plug, pull out the strings, pull the lift strings up through the slats, pull out the number of slats needed, trim the "ladder" type strings (leave enough to go back in the hole), put the plugs back in.
The terminology isn't right I'm sure, but thats the way I've always done it. Never saw one with a plug that couldn't be pulled.
No expert on shades or blinds though.

Hi Vic,
You may not be a blind expert (no comments), but you were spot on. I’ve installed many dozens of them over the years, but never shortened one. I saw the plugs, but wanted to insure that if I removed 'em, I could reassemble it (or, as you wrote, not “break it irreparably”!) They have instructions, but these were long gone. However, my neighbor keeps everything, so she looked thru her box. I managed to find some old instructions & sure enuf, they noted how to shorten them! I never noticed it before. Admittedly a bit confusing, but now I can DIM! Thanks for your expert advice. Haven’t been to N. Arizona in over 37 years – Flagstaff, Sedona, Clarkdale, the Canyon – but I remember it was a wonderful region.
Take care!

Glad I could help.
I'm not in the high country...I'm in the high desert I guess they call it. Bout half way between Flagstaff and Bullhead, hot, dry, and windy. We discarded Flagstaff as an option (though it was beautiful when we passed through) since it was 10 below when we were there. Much more expensive as well.
