The thumb turn on the 30+ year oldSaragent Deadbolt lock in my exterior door has broken. Unfortunately this is a very strange deadbolt. The actual "bolt" that moves in and out of the door edge is not at the centerline of the key/thumbturn mechanism. The bolt actually sits about 1 inch below the centerline of the mechanism and is controlled by some kind of cam/gear mechanism that is part of the brass coverplate of the mechanism. Does anyone know what this type of deadbolt this is called or where I could get a relacement? I have even called Sargent and sent them photos yet they are unable to find a match in any of their old catalogues.

Any way you can post the pics here? It would be worth a thousand words, as they say...

There are many brands that make similar type mortise locks. It is quite common for the turn button to be fitted below the cylinder hole.
The Schlage Dexter range of mortise locks might help you.
