Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Chain saw kill switch

My chain saw won't start. I've narrowed it down to the kill switch (I think!).

This is on an older Craftman chain saw. The start/stop switch appears to work by grounding out the "ignition module" when the lever is put in the stop position. I'm just guessing by the looks of the thing.

I have continuity between the kill wire on this switch and the case in both positions (start & stop). Seems to me that there should only be continuity in the stop postition.

In other words, when the switch is in the start position I should not have continuity between the case (ground) and the connection where the kill wire attaches to the ignition module.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

I wonder if I can even get a replacement for a Craftman saw that is 20+ yrs. old.

Correct, you should only have continuity with it in the off position. Check for spark with the kill wire unplugged just to make sure that's the only problem.
