I worked for an Ionics dealer which is another name for the Puronics. They use a silver impregnated carbon they claim does not allow bacteria to grow within their unit. The valve is a modified Fleck 2500. The price is way up there. Not worth it. Another poster was asking today if it was neccessary for them to come out once a year to do maintenance and charged her $250.00 each time.
Avila, I sent you a PM.

i was quoted $2K for puronics defender and the RO both installed.
i asked for any hidden maintance charge, and i was told the carbon needs to be changed 3 to 4 years.
the RO filter evey 2 year and the Membrane every 3 to 4 year.
Carbon : 350, filters 50, membrane: 130.

If you don't mind me asking, what is a membrane when referring to a filtration system?

carbon $350 for water softener
filter $50 each and membrane $130 are for the RO system.
membrane is the heart of the RO system, if that's what you are asking for.

Don't know what to chose.
1. puronics offered Defenter fr $2000K
now they are offering the terminator for 2500,
Its the stainless steal container with brass value.
And they include 4 stage RO, and asked about membrane back flush, and was told it does backflush like the K5 kinetico.
I asked about the yearly maintance, and was told the carbon in the softener has to be changed once in 3 to 4 year and would cast 300$, These are all include plumbing,
Kinetico is in $4500, and an Fleck with carbon and water filter + plumbing comes almost to $2000.
What am i missing here !!!!

All these are, are modified Fleck valves. Some of the parts are modified so you "HAVE" to go to them for repairs.

They "do not" have a flush system buildt within them like the K5.

The carbon and resin will mix. There is nothing to keep them seperated. Therefore, the whole purpose of the carbon is to protect the resin. This can not be done when they mix.
For around $1600.00 you could get a 1 cu ft Fleck 5600 metered, a 1 cu ft Fleck 5600 carbon system and a 4 stage. Find an installer for $400.00- $600.00 and you have a system that will last 20+ years.
