I am paneling my den that has 9 foot ceilings, and paneling only comes in 8 foot sheets. I am going to put crown and base moldings in, but that still is not enough to cover the difference in the height. Is there any way to hide the horizontal lines from the paneling other than adding a chair rail?

How about using a 1 x 8" base with a base cap and a two piece crown, the second piece of crown coming down the wall to the top of the paneling. Two piece crown usually has the second piece on the ceiling, but you can probably make it look good with the second piece coming down the wall. Or you could do 3 piece (1-on ceiling, 1-on wall).
