Hi,
I have a Whirlpool LGR4634PQ0 Gas Dryer that we bought on Craigs list. The guy had not used it in a year but said it worked perfectly. Well... it doesn't work perfectly anymore.
Sometimes it heats up, sometimes it doesn't. The gas is on, all connections are fine, ventilation is fine. So, I took the front panel off and disconnected the power to the bulkhead. I then turn the dryer on and I don't see anything ignite. I opened the door to try it again but this time my wife holds down the "on" button. After about 10-20 seconds, the igniter get's red and the flame ignites. However, she lets go and the the flame goes off. Is this a problematic gas valve or igniter?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
-Mike

Hello Mike. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Question for you to answer so we can better assist you is: Does the motor continue to rotate the drum when "start" button is released?
If not, motor is defective. Replace motor. If motor continues to run, "start" button is defective. Replace "start" button.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs or services. Always check for gas leaks whenever moving the appliance and/or a service or repair includes any connection of a gas part.
