I have rescued an old brass stand from my Dad's greenhouse. It was used as a plant stand and now it is so dirty it is past black it is just YUCK. I hate seeing old brass in this condition:madhell: How do I get it clean? It has been in the greenhouse at least 10 years so even if it was laquared (spelling?) it does not matter now. Anyone with ideas:confused:. All will be welcome. Thanks.

Hi,

I recently was faced with trying to restore several old brass door knobs that were exposed to the weather for 18 years. I used BRASSO, which I got at the big box hardware store, and it cleaned them right up. I did take some elbow grease but the results were stunning. Good Luck.

I found your post, and the replies. Wondered if you tried the Navy fix- orange koolaid? I've got an old, old, beaten up brass bucket (a good 5 gal anyway) that I'd love to post for sale online, but it has to be cleaned up first. It would take an enormous amount of koolaid, so I thought I'd ask if you tried the method, and check to see if you got good results. I've been hacking away at it with Barkeeper's Friend and steel wool, but that's a lot of work, especially with all the dents in it.
