I have a 95 horse mercury with hydraulics on a Alumacraft boat. Everything is working good except the shifter for foward and reversed. It shift just fine but there is a ringing sound that is coming from the shifter. It has never ringed before but once the key is turned to the on position it start a high pitch ringing sound. This was bouth second hand and I do not have a handbook to read. I was wondering if anyone knew why the shifter would ring?

Is it a ringing like a vibration or could it be a alarm? If it's a alarm it would be low or no oil or a shorted overheat senser.
