I have a 1984 Maytag electric clothes dryer, with a broken drive belt. It is front loading. What do I have to do to replace the broken belt?

Without a model # i am guessing it takes a 312959 single belt.
I have a belt made by Jason that has a picture on the back showing how it is routed around the idler pulley and the motor.
Just route the belt around the drum with the flat side against the drum at the old belt wear marks and route per. the picture.

unplug dryer first
Without model # can only give general info. Need to take front off and panel behind front that holds up drum, after front is off you should be able to take drum out, While drum is out figure out how the belt threads. If I remember right it is a little tricky on that model. I think there is a small panel in rear that you can remove to help with install of belt on idler. Wrap belt around drum and put back in to machine. Let us know how it came out.

I have the tub out and the broken belt out. I measure it as being 100 inches. The model is DE512, Ser No. 081525 NR.
The belt part number I find is 341241, and I'm not sure what length that is, or if it really is the right belt.

you need part# Y312959.

if you go to sear parts web site you can see a diagram of the belt routing. ribbed side goes away from drum
