Hello everyone. I just recently purchased a new home with an existing alarm system. From what I can tell everything has been hardwired. The box says its a GE interlogix 60-806-95R which was supported by Vector alarm systems. My previous home had an ADT safewatch (ademco safewatch) unit in it. Is it possible I can just swap out the alarm system with a new Ademco unit?

Who would you recommend using for cell backup because I do not and will not have a home telephone line.

Should I do this myself or just have a company do it?

I really have no idea how this GE unit works but it does not really impress me. It's powered and working but I dont know the code either.

Yes, the hardwired components other than the keypads and control are pretty much universal.

For the rest, any current mainstream brand will work just fine.

DIY is dependent on your own skill level and willingness and ability to learn to follow the instructions.

Thank you for the kind reply. I am very technical and should be able to install. I am thinking about going with an Ademco unit (unless someone can suggest something else to me).

My main question is how can I get a cell backup unit. My new home does not and will not have a telephone line. Besides, people know to cut the line. What do you recommend?

Thanks!!

Ademco will work just fine. The parts are widely available.

Make sure to get a 6160 keypad so you can program it.

If you want actual central station monitoring, you will need to go with the alarmnet or uplink type cell units. They need dealer support to activate, but there are vendors that sell them that will help you activate them.

Great! Do you know of any dealers I can buy this alarmnet from? Also, have you ever heard of alarm.com? A co-worker of mine told me they provide cell units as well. I am just confused as to what I should do. Should I just purchase an Ademco unit, install it, and find someone to do the cell unit? Or should I keep the GE unit and find someone who can find out the installer code AND install a cell unit to it. My head hurts from all the reading i've been doing!

A number of people have posted that they have used Alarm.com and are happy with it.

I get this sort of thing at the dealer level, so I don't really have a take on the direct to retail model like this.

I do think you will come out best by upgrading to a modern system.

You said, "I do think you will come out best by upgrading to a modern system. "

So here's what I think could be two good plans. Tell me what you think!

Option 1: Remove the GE alarm system, Install an ademco system and purchase alarmnet G. (Have you heard anything about alarmnet? I've heard all you have to do is buy the device and get nextalarm.com to monitor it. I think the total comes out to around 24 dollars a month.

Option 2: Keep the GE alarm system, just add nextalarm.com to it with the alarmnet.

I just don't want to call ADT, Brinks, Or vector. I feel they overcharge. So what do you think of my two options? Do you know anything about the alarmnet? Any other options are welcome. Thanks for all your input!
