I would like to build a 6' tall waterfall for my pond. Anyone have any experiance doing this? I was thinking of a mound of dirt for the base or possibly stacked tires covered with dirt.

Tires filled with compacted earth can be a very stable base.

check with you loco EPA because you DO NOT want to burry tires. they are harmfull to the drinking water and just plan bad idea.
sorry to be so harsh but this is not a good idea.

MNSAPP: Do you have a link for the hazards of burying tires?
I looked online but cannot find anything about the hazards of burying tires. The EPA reports I found state that they do not decay and waste a large amount of space in landfills. I have only found information that a hazard is present with large tire farms or municipal land fills due to the fire hazard they present when in large quantities. They also cite the hazard of burying the waste from burned tires.
I found many sites where tires filled with compacted earth are used for retaining walls and even found houses built with tires (not very attractive).
