6 older 4-5ft tall green shrubs have brown branches and look like they are partially dying. they are surrounded by pachysandra and there are no visible signs of bugs. before i remove and replace what steps if any should be taken to see if they can be saved or revived?

The first thing I would ask is this....Top branches or lower branches? If its the top.......you may have something wrong in the root structure......if its the lower....maybe a soil problem....have you pruned out the brown ones??

Hi Dand22,

Good questions from Gedman4. Probably the first place to start is with id of the shrubs. If you don't know what they are can you post a link to some pictures? A closeup of the leaves and/or any flowers and another of the placement in the landscape would be good.

If you don't have or can't take any pictures, a description of them would also be helpful. Are these needled evergreens, broad leafed evergreens (size and shape of the leaves), do they have flowers, and if so can you describe their shape, color, time of bloom, etc, do they get berries, are they planted in a sunny or shady location, etc?
